Wangdue Phodrang Tour 2025 -Package, Cost & Itinerary Overview

This is the last town before entering Central Bhutan. Sitting on the top hill, the formidable dzong is the town’s most visible features. The town itself is the little more than an enlarged village with well- provided shops and hotels. The road from Wangdue to Trongsa is one of the prettiest in Bhutan passing through streams, forests and villages before climbing the Petala pass on the Black Mountain ranges into the Trongsa valley. A few kilometres past the Gangtey Gompa is the village of Phobjikha, one of the winter homes of the Black Necked cranes which migrate to Bhutan from Central Asia.

Highlights of the Wangdue Phodrang Tour 2025:
1. Wangdue Phodrang Dzong:
Historical Importance: Built in 1638 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel, this iconic dzong was strategically positioned at the confluence of two rivers, Punatsangchu and Dangchu.
Recent Renovation: The dzong was severely damaged by fire in 2012 but has since been undergoing restoration, blending traditional Bhutanese architecture with modern conservation techniques.
2. Phobjikha Valley:
Nature and Wildlife: This glacial valley is famous as the winter home of the endangered black-necked cranes, which migrate from Tibet.
Activities: Enjoy hiking trails, visit the Gangtey Monastery, or explore the quaint villages.
3. Gangtey Monastery:
Also known as Gangtey Goenpa, this is one of Bhutan’s most important Nyingma monasteries, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Phobjikha Valley.
4. Rural Villages and Local Culture:
Explore traditional Bhutanese villages like Rukubji, Nobding, and Shaa, which offer insights into local lifestyles, farming practices, and crafts like bamboo weaving.
5. Beautiful Landscapes:
Wangdue Phodrang is characterized by green terraced fields, dense forests, and majestic mountain ranges, perfect for photography and nature lovers.
