An Exceptional Porter on Our Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek

Shayam was our porter during our 15-day Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, and he was one of the people who made the journey so memorable.

From the first day, we were impressed by his positive attitude, hard work, and kindness. He carried not only our bags but also his own load, yet he was always ready to help whenever we needed him.

One moment really showed us what kind of person Shayam is. On one of the steepest and slipperiest sections of the trail, I was struggling to keep my balance. Shayam reached out and held the handle of my backpack to help steady me — while still carrying a full load himself. I will never forget that moment.

He was also incredibly helpful when we arrived at the tea houses. He helped refill our water, clear the table, serve food, and even made beautiful fruit plates for us. After a long day of walking, those little things meant a lot.

When it snowed, Shayam would often walk ahead and help break the trail. At the tea houses, he was usually there waiting with a big smile and a friendly wave, sometimes bringing us honey, lemon, and ginger tea to our room.

Shayam is not only a strong and hardworking porter, but also a genuinely kind and caring person. We were very happy to have him with us and would highly recommend him to anyone trekking in Nepal.

We also hope to see Shayam achieve his goal of becoming a certified trekking guide in the future. We believe he has all the qualities to become an excellent guide.
